Flashy Photos

An aeon or so ago, I used to update this site frequently, pleasing procrastinators around the globe. The resurrection has arrived... again. 2006 will see a whole new side of orenfilm. We start with the mildly ridiculous orenphoto slideshow which is still in its infancy and exhibits many glitches. Most important though, is the soundtrack, performed by the acclaimed This is Your Brain on Music. It's my first attempt at a flash program, and it does some cool things to automatically update itself... but I'll spare you the details.

Okay, so it looks like a video you would make for your high school Spanish class, but somehow it's still a commercial for Disney - my 4th. This one highlights the fact that their product will allow viewers to interact with the commercials using their remote control.
Photo-shoot Virgin

I had my first ever official photo-shoot today, and it showed. Cinematography is drastically different from still, clean, photography, most notably in terms of lighting. We wanted a National Lampoon's cheesy cheerleader cover to a DVD of a movie called 'Lurking in Suburbia', and little did I know that we would need some massive lights for the task. Combined with running out of room on my memory card and a constantly dying battery it proved to be a rather stressful experience. But in the end Photoshop saved the day. Though we took over 500 photos, I threw 5 of them into the mix real quick to try and prove to myself that they were actually useful. Here are the originals and the re-composed versions.

As promised, a new orenfilm delivered to your webstep. This one sprung from a realization I had of two objects that look an awful lot like one another. Roomy Sam gets credit for helping cement the concept and his incredible acting brings it to life in, A Sound Disagreement.
One year of Hollywood

So I've been in Hollywood for one year now and it's still difficult to tell what the future holds for me. I originally thought that within two years I would figure out if this was the right path for me and see if I had a chance of making it. Two years was definitely the wrong number. I think that one month was enough to convince me that this is what I'm after, but ten years is probably a more realistic timeline to figure out if I'll be successful here. Regardless, this is the challenging life I've been looking for, so that's good. Still no new orenfilms, as I've been swept away with internships, crew work, and other hired video projects. All I can offer you is my latest disney commercial, seen here. I had exactly 5 minutes with one kid, a box of Legos, and a greenscreen to make something useable. Given the circumstances, I think it came out okay. I even learned a very valuable lesson: if you're shooting Legos on a green screen, don't use the green ones!

So I had this idea that I would shoot the master shot (the wide, establishing shot) one way, and then flip the closeup shots around. That is, make the person on the left be on the right and vice-versa in the closeup. Then I would mirror the images in editing, and see if it looks weird. Well, the results are in, it does not look weird. If you look for the placement of the black couch in each shot you might notice it. Regardless, the story is still riveting.
Belated Update

So after quitting my job to devote myself completely to OrenFilm I have found out that my powers of procrastination far outweigh any sort of reason or rationale... that being said, it has been two months since my last update. To be fair to myself, I have spent the past three weeks working on a feature film in the Bay Area called The Hamiltons. We shot with the Panasonic Varicam (in HD) and I managed to steal the camera for a couple hours and shoot something completeley lame that I will post later.
'Boba Love' Shoot is Complete!

'Boba Love' has finally wrapped shooting, with a rather hectic, challenging, and somewhat successful shoot on Monday (the 8th). The film has already been processed by the price-gouging Monaco Labs and is off to be telecined (transferred to video for editing) at Filmworks/FX in Santa Monica. They're the same people that did 'The Matrix' and that Gatorade commercial with the colored beads of sweat, so hopefully they'll do a good job. Also, I think we're going to change the name to 'The Last Straw', which, while less fun of a name, makes more sense to those of 'Boba' ignorance.
